Morocco Hits 4 Million Tourist Milestone in Early 2025

Rabat – Morocco’s tourism industry is off to a record-breaking start in 2025, welcoming 4 million tourists by the end of March — a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and the Social and Solidarity Economy.

This significant growth underlines Morocco’s rising appeal as a year-round destination, maintaining steady momentum despite overlapping with the month of Ramadan. In March alone, nearly 1.4 million travelers arrived in the country, marking a 17% rise year-on-year.

The ministry’s data shows an almost even split in visitor demographics: 2.1 million foreign tourists and 1.9 million Moroccan expatriates explored the country’s diverse offerings during the first quarter. This balance reflects Morocco’s versatility and strong connection with both international and diaspora travelers.

A Sector in Strategic Transformation

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor credited the surge to Morocco’s evolving strategy, noting:

“These figures highlight the remarkable transformation of our tourism offerings. We’ve adapted to changing global expectations and positioned Morocco as a destination for all seasons.”

The Moroccan government has laid out ambitious goals for 2025, focusing on:

  • Expanding international air routes
  • Attracting new hotel investments
  • Digitalizing the visitor journey

Investing in the Future

In support of these goals, over €1 billion in public tourism investments has been committed for the coming decade — a figure that doesn’t yet include private sector contributions.

Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), Achraf Fayda, added that around €500 million will be invested in each of the six cities set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This forms part of a broader effort to upgrade tourism infrastructure and prepare Morocco for increased global visibility.

Broadening Global Reach

As part of its long-term vision, Morocco also aims to diversify its tourism source markets and reduce seasonal dependency, ultimately reinforcing its position as a leading Mediterranean destination.
